For many years MacBook Air has been the leading choice of the majority of creatives. Those who were searching for a bit more power were heading straight to MacBook Pro.
But recently it looks like Apple is not so competitive as it was. We saw all the new lineup in 2016, and we were left with a bitter taste. Why not a new MacBook Air? It is the most famous writer’s tool, and now it is gone!? Yes, sure you can get a small 13” MacBook Pro, but somehow it feels entirely different. If you are willing to pay extra, you can get the “innovative” touch bar. Looks handy and cool but if you check the Windows realm, there are plenty of full touchscreen devices.
So what do we recommend in the category of light and small laptops?
For all the hipsters who want to get something more exotic, we recommend Lenovo Yoga Book. It is a small and ultra-portable 2 in 1 device. What makes it even cooler is that it has not one, but two screens. One of the screens can be used as a keyboard or a full-size drawing pad. Cool, isn´t it? It is perfect for all of you that like sketching on the go. It is an amazing multimedia device that has the full capabilities of Windows 10 64bits. Only down part is the week Atom X5 processor.
If you are willing to put 100-200 dollars extra, you can get the more powerful Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with i5 processor. It lacks the drawing pad, but you can draw directly on the screen. It has options up to 16gb of ram that can handle the even heavier software.
And now what about the high-end devices?
Is the Macbook Pro still the king? NO!
Simple as that. Now it is full of healthy choices, but we will focus just on one.
The best configuration than Apple offers is 2.7GHz quad-core Core i7 processor, 16GB memory, 512GB SSD, 2GB Nvidia Radeon Pro 455 Graphics and it is accomplished indeed.
But here it is one equally good or even better competitor Alienware 13. It is another 4-core beast, but it also has an extra trick up its sleeve – a VR-capable video card, the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060. It is cheaper, lighter and faster.
If Apple continues the same way, even the die-hard fans of the brand will start searching for alternatives. The jump for Mac OS to Windows is a difficult one, but it is sure worth it.
